I am a 27 year old male and believe to have been recently infected with HPV. I am concerned that I have Oral HPV, and I’m wondering if Gardasil would provide any benefit whatsoever in terms of preventing warts? I understand it will not cure the infection, but at this point, I’m willing to try anything. Also, would 27 really be too old?
Herpes Counselor:
The HPV vaccine is a series of three shot given during a six month period. The vaccine reduces the chance of getting genital wart outbreaks by 90%. It also reduces the chance of getting cervical cancer from HPV by 70%.
The Gardasil vaccine is given to an individual who is age 27 or under that hasn’t been exposed to HPV. Seem you already have HPV, it’s unknown how effective the vaccine would be even if you were under 27. HPV typically doesn’t cause oral warts. If an individual hasn’t had genital wart outbreaks for two or more years there is at least a 90% chance the human body completely cleared the virus. It’s important to eat healthy and maintain a healthy immune system. A healthy immune system is more likely to completely fight off HPV compared to a weak immune system.
